Project Description

In 2018 NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic awarded a project to W4 Construction Group to Inspect and Clean the Water Intake Cribs at Great Lakes Naval Station because of our demonstrated Marine Construction Experience profile.  Because of our exceptional project execution on this unique objective, NAVFAC awarded us another contract to Inspect and Clean Additional Intake Cribs at Great Lakes Naval Station, which is the sole location for basic training for all enlistees in the US Navy.  The Water Plant at Great Lakes supplies and filters water from Lake Michigan and when zebra mussels, algae and sediment restrict the flow of water through the crib and pipes, they need to be cleaned to improve water delivery to the teams working and living on location.  Our divers cleaned Water Intake Cribs that were 100% covered with zebra mussels and algae and removed sand and sediment from inside the bottom of the 36 inch pipe using a submersible hydraulic pump.  We completed this project weeks ahead of schedule and the results will ensure proper design flow rates and provide NAVFAC with an efficiently operating system.  W4 was proud to support the Navy to deliver another quality project for this repeat customer.
